Thousands of working Michiganders support Kildee’s efforts to rebuild crumbling infrastructure and invest in skilled trades

Congressman Dan Kildee announced the endorsement of the Michigan Regional Council of Carpenters and Millwrights, citing his leadership in Congress to reinvest in Michigan’s infrastructure and workers. The Michigan Regional Council of Carpenter and Millwrights represent 14,000 skilled tradesmen and women throughout Michigan.

“I am proud to have the support of the Michigan Regional Council of Carpenters and Millwrights and stand with Michigan’s working men and women to get to get our state back to work. In Congress, I have worked to pass bipartisan policies that invest in our workforce and our communities to help rebuild our crumbling roads and bridges and create high-skill, high-wage jobs here at home,” said Congressman Kildee. “We need to invest in our people, ensuring that they have the skills they need to succeed in today’s economy and a job that provides greater economic security for themselves and their families.”

Congressman Kildee has been a leading voice in Congress for investing in skilled trades training, creating good-paying jobs, and rebuilding the country’s failing infrastructure. In the wake of the Flint water crisis, Congressman Kildee led the fight to get Flint the necessary resources to help families recover and upgrade the city’s water infrastructure. Kildee worked in a bipartisan fashion, with Republicans and Democrats, to deliver $170 million in federal aid to address the water crisis that is now being used to help replace lead service lines and expand health care for Flint families. Kildee also introduced the 21st Century Jobs Act to expand the National Jobs Training Program that would train and employ Michiganders in good-paying high-skilled jobs. In Congress, Kildee currently leads a national effort to rethink how policy makers and Members of Congress invest in older industrial communities, bringing jobs and opportunity to areas like Flint and Saginaw.

“The Michigan Regional Council of Carpenters and Millwrights is proud to endorse Congressman Dan Kildee for re-election,” said MRCC political director Lisa Canada. “Congressman Kildee has a proven record of being a fighter for investing in our infrastructure and a skilled workforce here in Michigan. Since being elected, Kildee has been a champion of expanding skills education and bringing high-wage jobs to Michigan. He continues to be leading voice in Congress to fix our crumbling infrastructure as well as supporting older industrial communities like Flint, Saginaw, and Bay City.”

Congressman Kildee was first elected to Congress in 2012 and is serving in third term in Congress. He currently serves as the Vice Ranking Member of the House Financial Services Committee as well as a Senior Whip.

The Fifth Congressional District includes Genesee, Bay, Arenac and Iosco counties and parts of Tuscola and Saginaw counties.
