7,500 Active and Retired Fire Fighters Support Kildee’s Re-Election to Congress

The Michigan Professional Fire Fighters Union announced their endorsement of Congressman Dan Kildee as he runs for re-election to represent Michigan’s Fifth Congressional District. The Michigan Professional Fire Fighters Union represents 7,500 active and retired firefighters across Michigan.

“My grandfather’s work as the first Flint Township Fire Chief taught me the true meaning of public service. Michigan’s firefighters work hard every day, putting their lives on the line, to keep our families safe,” said Congressman Kildee. “I’m honored to receive the endorsement of the Michigan Professional Fire Fighters Union because they embody what it means to be true public servants. Every worker, including our brave firefighters, deserve fair pay and safe conditions and that is what I will continue to fight for in Congress.”

Congressman Kildee has fought for federal resources for firefighters since being elected to Congress. He worked with both the Obama and Trump Administrations to secure millions of dollars in grant funding for Michigan’s fire departments to hire new firefighters and support public safety efforts. He also worked with Republicans and Democrats to introduce a bipartisan bill to strengthen labor rights for workers and ensure that all state and city firefighters have the right to collectively bargain.

“Congressman Kildee has been a champion for Michigan’s firefighters in Congress since he was elected. From securing federal funds to keep our departments safe to supporting policies that ensure all firefighters have fair labor protections, I know he is working for us. I’m proud to lead the Michigan Professional Fire Fighters Union in endorsing Dan Kildee for Congress,” said Mark Docherty, President of the Michigan Professional Fire Fighters Union.

Congressman Kildee was first elected to Congress in 2012 and is serving in third term in Congress. He currently serves as the Vice Ranking Member of the House Financial Services Committee as well as a Senior Whip.

The Fifth Congressional District includes Genesee, Bay, Arenac and Iosco counties and parts of Tuscola and Saginaw counties.
