Dan knows that police are an important pillar of our society. That’s why Dan has opposed any attempt to “defund” the police and instead worked to support local law enforcement and reduce crime in our communities.
Dan introduced bipartisan legislation, supported by Republicans and Democrats, to increase funding for our local police departments. The Invest to Protect Act would create a new grant program for officer recruitment, retention and other personnel costs, mental health resources for officers, as well as body cameras and other equipment to invest in local police departments. This program would specifically benefit smaller police departments—those that employ fewer than 200 officers, like in Genesee, Saginaw, Bay and Midland counties.
Dan is proud to have the support of the Michigan Association of Police Organizations, one of the largest police organizations in Michigan representing more than 10,000 law enforcement employees.
