Health Care & Prescription Drugs

Dan believes we must do more to ensure that every Michigander has access to quality, affordable health insurance and prescription drugs.

Dan has opposed efforts to take away health insurance coverage from Michiganders with pre-existing conditions. He has also authored legislation to allow more people to buy into Medicare and supported bills that cut taxes to make it more affordable for small businesses to provide health coverage to their employees.

Dan took on special interests to pass a new law allowing Medicare, for the first time ever, to negotiate lower prices with pharmaceutical companies. He also passed a new law capping the cost of insulin at $35 a month for seniors on Medicare, and continues to fight for capping the cost of insulin for all Americans.

On the Ways and Means Committee, Dan worked hard to end the practice of surprise medical billing. Some Michiganders have been charged unexpected and obscene charges for medical services because they were billed as out-of-network services, even though they had no ability to choose their emergency room or medical provider. If there is a payment dispute between insurance companies and health care providers, Dan believes that patients should not be in the middle of that dispute, or stuck paying the bill.
